Combined Internal Medicine and 
                    Pediatrics Residency

                    Welcome

The Combined Internal Medicine/Pediatric Residency Training Program is a four year program designed to prepare the physician for a career providing medical care to both adults and children. The program was established in 1981 in response to the growing interest of medical students for a graduate training program that provided a greater depth of knowledge and exposure to the medical care of individuals of all ages than was offered in a Family Practice Residency Program. The majority of the graduates of the combined program pursue careers in Primary Care, although some receive further training in subspecialties such as rheumatology, infectious disease and endocrinology. The program meets all the guidelines of both the American Boards of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Pediatrics. Upon the successful completion of the four year program, the resident is eligible to sit for the Board Examinations in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics leading to Board Certification in both fields.

Although it operates as a separate program, all aspects of the program are fully integrated into the Internal Medicine and the Pediatric Residency Programs of the University at Buffalo. During the four years in the combined program, the resident rotates through Children's Hospital of Buffalo, Buffalo General Hospital, Erie County Medical Center and Veterans Administration Medical Center in Buffalo which insures a broad exposure to the range of medical problems of adults and children of all social strata.
